The squadron committee works behind-the-scenes to ensure the squadron and its cadets can continue to function. They meet once every few weeks to discuss the squadron's finances, fundraising, welfare and organisation of the unit.
Members of the committee are voted in for a term of twelve months at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). They discuss support they can provide to the Squadron Commander through raising vital funds for activities and equipment but also to ensure funds are spent wisely. They will also discuss the direction the squadron is taking and receive a report on the status of the squadron from the Squadron Commander.
Like any committee there are three officers:
Other members may be ordinary members or Trustees who can countersign payments and withdrawals from the squadron bank account.
Squadron committees have been around since the very formation of the Air Cadets in 1941. To this day, a squadron cannot exist until a committee has been formed.
The Squadron Committee allows for a system of checks and balances; they do not interfere with the day-to-day running of the unit but play a vital role in ensuring funds are raised and controlled according to the law and ensuring the cadets are receiving the right experience.
We are always on the look out for new members to help oversee the squadron. Contact us to to discuss your involvement.
