Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO)

Non-Commissioned Officers are uniformed members of staff who promote the standards, ethos and core values of the Air Cadets. They typically take on roles upholding the dress and discipline standards, and organise cadets on parade. NCOs also take on roles as classroom and activity instructors in a range of subjects encouraging cadets to excel in the Air Cadet syllabus.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Uphold drill and discipline standards.
  • Organise cadets on parade.
  • Teach subjects from the Air Cadet training syllabus.

NCO candidates begin their service as a Civilian Instructor (CI) and must pass a selection interview panel at Wing (area) level before being appointed on a probationary period which concluces on successful completion of a week-long uniformed staff course at RAF Cranwell.

All adult volunteers are also required to undergo an enhaned Discloure and Barring check prior to joining and will be expected to complete the Adult Volunteer Induction Programme within six months - don't worry, it's not hard and we will guide you through it!
